Mobilisation of rare earth elements in shear zones: Insights from the Tabouchent granodioritic pluton (Jebilet massif, Variscan Belt, Morocco)

چکیده

In the Jebilet massif (Variscan belt, Morocco), two peraluminous granodioritic plutons (the Eastern and Central plutons) are spatially associated with a regional shear zone. The pluton includes Tabouchent, Bramram Bamega intrusions, which represent variably eroded portions of an arcuate apical part pluton. intrusions composed biotite ± cordierite-bearing granodiorite that is crosscut by tourmaline-bearing leucogranite, greisenized in cupola. Fluorine, Sn-W (Au) mineralization present while Cu-Au Pb-Zn-Ag-Au mineralizations contact metamorphic aureole around intrusion. Deformation more homogeneous than Tabouchent intrusion where deformation very heterogeneous concentrated within conjugate subvertical meter-scale ductile zones breakdown feldspar resulted transformation to phyllonites quartz + muscovite chlorite. 40Ar/39Ar dating on white mica allowed us date shearing event 305.9 0.9 Ma. Fluid-rock interaction mobilization rare earth elements (REE) other major trace elements. Na Ca typically leached from K volatiles gained. REE mobilisation was decoupled accompanied fractionation between light heavy REE. It mainly controlled alteration magmatic accessory REE-bearing phases, predominantly monazite, followed reprecipitation syntectonic xenotime, Th phosphate, Ce oxide fluorocarbonates. Other typical changes enrichments Sn, W, As Sb. mineralogical chemical recorded similar those greisenization affected leucogranite. They indicate provide pathways for rising acidic fluids exsolved S-type leucogranites.

Three-dimensional shape and emplacement of the Cardenchosa deformed pluton (Variscan Orogen, southwestern Iberian Massif)

The Cardenchosa pluton is a Lower Carboniferous Variscan granite located in the southwestern Iberian Massif. It intruded along the contact between the Sierra Albarrana and Azuaga tectonic units. To the northwest the pluton connects with the leftlateral Azuaga fault. The pluton appears in the footwall of the low-angle normal Casa del Cafe fault, which crops out to the west of the granite. Gravi...

Uraninite, Coffinite and Brannerite from Shear-Zone Hosted Uranium Deposits of the Bohemian Massif (Central European Variscan Belt)

New mineralogical data are presented for shear-zone hosted uranium mineralisation from selected uranium deposits that occur in the Bohemian Massif. The uranium mineralisation is in high-grade metamorphic rocks of the Moldanubian Zone and/or in granitic rocks of the Moldanubian batholith and Bor pluton as complex uraninite–coffinite and uraninite–coffinite–brannerite assemblages. For analysed co...

Late orogenic carboniferous extensions in the Variscan French Massif Central

The Variscan French Massif Central experienced two successive stages of extension from Middle Carboniferous to Early Permian. In the northern Massif Central, the first stage began in the late Visean, immediately after nappe stacking, and is well recorded by NamurianWestphalian synkinematic plutonism. The Middle Carboniferous leucogranites widespread in the NW Massif Central (Limousin and Sioule...

Rare Earth Elements Profile

Definitions and characteristics The rare earth elements (REE) (sometimes referred to as the rare earth metals) are a group of 17 chemically similar metallic elements, including the 15 lanthanides, scandium and yttrium. The lanthanides are elements spanning atomic numbers 57 (lanthanum, La) to 71 (lutetium, Lu) (Table 1). The lanthanides all occur in nature, although promethium, the rarest, only...

On the Extraction of Rare Earth Elements from Geothermal Brines

The availability of rare earth elements from primary resources has come into question in the last two decades. This has sparked various government and industry initiatives to examine potential rare earth element resources apart from virgin ore bodies. Geothermal fluids are potentially significant sources of valuable minerals and metals, while co-recovery with geothermal energy production would ...
